I think that there is an underlying  pattern here

I've been following this thread from the sidelines, but it appears to
me that much of the debate follows simply because no context is
provided. it is easy to argue about hierarchies when the behavior one
might specify for a particular class is not anchored in a particular
use. the face that a circle or an ellipse places upon the world
depends upon who is viewing it
