Problems with maintaining 3rd party products in vobs

• the operating system cannot be (fully) versioned: there is an egg/hen problem (interdependencies in the boot scripts)
• versioning under ClearCase more or less makes our whole system dependent on license availability, etc.
• shared libraries are a special case
• some other resources can only be found on one system in one version at a time (sockets, etc.)
• there may be a performance penalty
• tools in our vobs are not found by locate (but soft links pointing to them in unix directories are).
• /usr/ccs/lbin/cpp being in a vob, CDE cannot load ~/.Xdefaults
• some tools may have host based licenses
