Suddenly, as you start emacs anew from a terminal (maybe remotely
on an other host), your normal key bindings disappear. Some other
details may look weird (colours, menus, etc...).
Especially, the backspace key is mapped as C-h
Check your DISPLAY environment variable. If it is not set, emacs starts in no-windows mode.
