Dimensions of information
We communicate information, we try to store it, to manage it, to
transform it. In the various contexts, we abstract various aspects of
it, with the risk of forgetting at times how deep and complex it is.
Here is an attempt to restore it its volume, by identifying some more
or less orthogonal dimensions.
- Audience
- This varies from private to public. Whom is it intended to?
- Responsibility
- This varies from objective to subjective. Where does it come
from? Who should feel responsible for its accuracy? If it comes
from an external, identified source, we may disagree with it or
know its flaws or shortcomings without attempting to correct
them. It may be real (objective), while being wrong at the same
time. If it is subjective, we must make it true or correct.
- Persistence
- From eternal to volatile. How long will it be relevant? Is it
just an announce, or should it be maintained?
